Google has announced plans to build a data center in Lincoln, its third in the state, continuing to strengthen the Omaha-Lincoln metropolitan areas as hubs for innovation and technology.
The announcement was made with U.S. Senator Deb Fischer and Congressman Mike Flood at the company’s Papillion data center campus on Tuesday morning along with city officials from Lincoln, Omaha and Papillion. Google’s continued investment in data centers and other infrastructure plays an important role in powering digital services such as Google Cloud, Workspace (Gmail, Docs, Sheets and more), Search and Maps, for people and organizations worldwide.
“We are thrilled that Google has chosen Lincoln to grow their technical infrastructure presence in Nebraska. I’ve been encouraged by the partnership and look forward to working together to bring more innovation and economic growth to the capital city,” said Leirion Gaylor Baird, Mayor of Lincoln.
“This is an incredible day for Lincoln,” said Jason Ball, president and CEO of the Lincoln Chamber of Commerce and the Lincoln Partnership for Economic Development. “The addition of Google’s data center to our business landscape marks a significant milestone in our ongoing efforts to foster economic growth and transformative development within our community.”
The data center in Lincoln will be the third in Nebraska launched by Google since 2019 and located northwest of 56th Street and Interstate 80.
“We are so excited to welcome Google to Lincoln,” added Luke Peltz, Lincoln Partnership for Economic Development’s vice president. “The arrival of Google’s data center is a true testament to the collective efforts of the Lincoln Partnership for Economic Development and the city of Lincoln to cultivate innovation and create new employment opportunities within our community.”
